Rediscovering Ikapati aka. Lakapati
Rediscovering Ikapati is my interpretation of Ikapati (also known as Lakapati), the goddess of cultivated land. The story behind this piece is deeply personal. In the image, a mother stands with her children, gazing upon the land before her. She pauses to take in its beauty and abundance, offering thanks to the goddess for another day of nourishment for her family, and asking for continued prosperity.
This work reflects my own journey of rediscovering my roots—relearning my Filipino history and heritage. As I reconnect with these stories, I find joy in sharing them through my art, allowing tradition and personal experience to meet on the canvas.
Stylistically, I wanted to blend my own approach with an experimental influence inspired by the work of the incredibly talented Jane Newland, whose artistry I deeply admire. Her work continues to inspire me to explore new visual languages while honoring cultural narratives.
