This piece is a contemporary interpretation of Ikapati, the ancient Philippine goddess of cultivated land. A mother and her children stand before fertile fields, pausing to breathe in the fresh air, give thanks, and ask for prosperity. The mother embodies both beauty and abundance, reflecting the goddess’s nurturing spirit.

In this modern retelling, the mother and children represent myself and the countless single mothers who work tirelessly to support their families. Creating this work allowed me to explore and share my Philippine heritage, uncovering the hidden histories of our pre-colonial ancestors. It is both a personal reflection and a celebration of resilience, gratitude, and cultural legacy.
