Singkil Print
One of the oldest Filipino dances, Singkil takes its name from the bells worn on the ankles of the Muslim princess it portrays. The dance tells the epic legend of the Darangen of the Maranao people of Mindanao. Dancers maintain solemn expressions and dignified poses, beginning at a slow pace as the music gradually accelerates. Fans are skillfully manipulated to represent the winds, while the performers expertly weave through criss-crossed bamboo poles, showcasing grace, precision, and the rich storytelling tradition of Filipino culture.
